Your chainsaw operates by propelling a chain around a metal guide bar; the chain's teeth make small cuts in succession and rapidly bite through wood. If you find your existing Chain is dull and the blade is burning its way through wood, then the Chain will need replacing. A new Chain cuts well with very little force on the bar, while a dull chain tends to ride in the cut without deepening it.
