The Brush Bar in your Gtech AirRam vacuum cleaner is made from plastic with bristles that are rotate at high speeds to extract dirt from carpets.
How do brush bars work?
Vacuum cleaners designed for carpeted floors feature a revolving brushbar that revolves up to 6,500 RPM, driven by a belt attached to the motor. The main effect of a brushbar is to loosen dirt from the carpet fibres and move it upward to the suction motor.
When should I replace the brush bar?
Worn or damaged bristles will not effectively clean your carpet, so replacing the brushbar when the bristles are worn is a must. It's easy to tell when the bristles are worn out as they feel soft instead of stiff, and they may also have split ends.
If your vacuum cleaner is very noisy, the bearings in the brushbar may be defective or the endcaps may be clogged with hairs and carpet fibres. In either case, consider replacing the brushbar, especially if the bristles are showing signs of wear.
It's also a good idea to replace the belt when the brushbar is replaced.
